Indonesia, Germany Sign MoU on Maritime Cooperation
Indonesia and Germany have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on maritime cooperation.
The signing of the MoU was carried out by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and German Voce Chancellor and Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel on Wednesday in German.
The MoU was signed following a declaration between Indonesia and Germany in comprehensive cooperation on July 12, 2012, a written statement received by Antara news agency yesterday stated.
Among the points included in the cooperation include maritime strategic cooperation, marine safety and security, maritime infrastructure investment, shipyard investment, research and technology cooperation as well as training.
Minister Luhut and Vice Chancellor Gabriel also discussed geopolitics issue, maritime security, counterterrorism and strategic cooperation between the two countries.
Following the meeting, Mr. Gabriel and German Transportation and Digital Infrastructure Minister Alexander Dobrindt will visit Indonesia later this year.
“German Vice Chancellor will visit Indonesia after German election around the end of September or early October, whereas German Transportation Minister will be coming to Indonesia around July,” said the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs official Arif Havas, who also attended the meeting.
