Govt Invites Mid-size Japan Businesses to Invest
Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto encourages Japan’s medium-scale industries to invest in Indonesia. The minister said that there are three manufacturing sectors with potentials for co-development; automotive, electronics, and food and beverages (F&B).
“They have to look at moving economies, one of them is Indonesia,” he said in a press statement yesterday after giving a keynote speech in the ‘Indonesia Investment Business Forum 2017’ in Tokyo, Japan.
Airlangga said his ministry has facilitated industrial park development to accommodate Japanese investors. “We will push them into new industrial areas so they can invest directly because of the ease of licensing.”
The minister promised to help investors get tax incentives in accordance with the value of their investments. “If the value is large, it will be given immediately. For mid-size investments, we will give incentives to those who are export-oriented and labor-intensive, “he said.
Airlangga Hartarto said there are some 1,800 Japanese companies with partnerships in Indonesia. for over half a century of bilateral economic cooperation. The Industry Ministry noted that Japan is the second largest trading partner after China. The total transaction between Indonesia and Japan transactions in Q2/2017 reached US$14.8 billion, a 4.9 percent yoy increase.
